Globe's Own
Around the Globe
Around the Globe combines stimulating articles covering the Globe’s past and forthcoming theatre productions and its wide programme of educational activities. Although published by Shakespeare’s Globe, the magazine seeks to present an objective view of the project’s aims and activities, and does not shy away from coverage of some of its more controversial aspects.
The magazine also includes a variety of special and regular articles on Shakespeare’s language, trends in contemporary productions of Shakespeare, theatre history, book and film reviews and occasional fiction and poetry. Recent contributors have included eminent Shakespearean scholars and critics (Stanley Wells, Peter Holland, John Bayley, Andrew Gurr, Dennis Kennedy, David Kastan), poets, playwrights and theatre practitioners (Peter Barnes, Robert Nye, Seamus Heaney, Peter Porter, Edwin Morgan, Ruth Fainlight, Nicholas Hytner) and a range of regular freelance writers and critics.
David Crystal’s long-running and highly accessible series of articles on the inexhaustible inventiveness of Shakespeare’s language, David Jays’s on fashions in production, John Styan’s on Shakespeare’s stagecraft and the entertaining series on Shakespeare at the margins offered by Martin Wiggins are some of the magazine’s regular highlights.
Around the Globe is one of the benefits enjoyed by the Friends and major donors of Shakespeare’s Globe. The magazine is also available from the shop at Shakespeare's Globe and by direct subscription.
